Choose an edition, not just a number
HD, 1080p and 4K describe picture formats, but the source and compression affect the result too. Open the selected service's title information to see what it offers. A catalog image cannot prove the resolution of a stream.
Match the setting to the evening
A phone on mobile data may benefit from a stable lower setting. A large television on a reliable connection can make a better edition more worthwhile. Automatic quality may change during playback as conditions change. Check the current setting if the picture stays soft.
If dark scenes look messy
Test the selected quality before raising brightness aggressively. Smoke, rain and shadows can reveal compression that is less obvious in a bright close-up. A television's film preset may also look more natural than a heavily processed setting.
For stops and buffering, start with playback troubleshooting. For a trip, use the app's download-size estimate rather than assuming that every 1080p film needs the same amount of storage.
